A considerable psychological battle that every person faces is his or
her inability of expression. As a person ages, they trust others less
and keep more and more of their innermost feeling to themselves.
Whatever it may be, it is ironic that these same feelings that we keep
hidden are what define us as an individual and make us unique and
beautiful to the world. ------------ My mixed media wall hangings are all
about this notion. In my work, I take an object or idea that is very
personal; and then keep it hidden in the piece in some way. In this
way, the viewer will at first glance see the piece as very beautiful; but
will have to look closely to unwrap the multiple layers to truely
understand what the piece is all about. Some elements might be so
personal and sealed so tightly that the viewer cannot get to it at all.
The more intimate the viewer allows himself to become with the
piece, the more he will understand it -- just as in human relationships.
------------ My pieces are allegorical replicas of human life with all its
layers and complications. The small details in my works are what
make the piece interesting to look at, just as small details make a
person interesting to know.
