Shelley Higman was born in Iowa on May Day, 1970. She was
raised in eastern Washington, and graduated from EWU in 1994
with a BA in Sociology. After college, Higman worked a series of
unsatisfying jobs, which eventually convinced her to become a full
time artist. She had been painting since childhood, but got serious
and methodical, working in oils from both live models and plain air.
Higman’s “Seasons of the Palouse” are based on the imagery of
the human form and western landscape. She currently lives and
works on Whidbey Island, Washington.
