THE SOFT EXPLOSIONS
The Soft Explosions are a New York City rock and roll band
formed by brothers David and Nicky Kulund in 2004. The
line-up was completed when the two met guitarist Lizzy
Lee Vincent in a downtown club. Lizzy was dining and the
three bonded over their mutual love of raw, noisy rock and
roll as well as a shared passion for '60's psychedelia.
Shortly after their formation, The Soft Explosions released
the Ride Between the Eyes EP on Canarsie Records to
praising reviews. Recorded by Paul Q. Kolderie
(Radiohead, Pixies, The Cure), UK Music Search described
the sound as if "The Velvet Underground, The Jesus And
Mary Chain, Sonic Youth and Pink Floyd were all playing
together at the same party; the sound bleeding into one
glorious whole." The single Ride Between the Eyes was
spotlighted on NYC's Q104.3 as part of their Best New
Music of 2004 program while "Reverberate (Let it all
start!)" received airplay on Spin Radio.

The Soft Explosions quickly became one of the must see
live bands in the city. They were crowned the New York
winners of Little Steven's Underground Garage Battle of
the Bands and were big draws at the CMJ Music Festival
the last two years. Other live highlights included opening
for The Secret Machines to a packed Webster Hall, and
last spring's SXSW set opening for The Brian Jonestown
Massacre where following their own set, half the
explosions then went on to play with the BJM when half of
that group's members went missing.

The Soft Explosions recently returned from a string of
west coast dates where in Los Angeles the band shot their
first video for the glam, rock and rolling "Funky Black Cat".
